64 bit app example

How does Blender bahave with a 64bit chip?
Any chance Blender gets a “port” for 64bit processors? Like this app:

TGS plans to support the AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon 64 processor architectures with their professional 3D graphics software product lines Open Inventor and amira, for both the Linux and Windows operating systems. AMD, Fujitsu-Siemens, and TGS showed their cooperation by demonstrating selected 64-bit application examples for the launch of the new Celsius V810 workstation.

Open Inventor from TGS is a 3D scene graph API widely used for developing demanding 3D graphics applications. amira, built on top of Open Inventor, is TGS’s flagship visualization application, focusing on interactive analysis, processing, and viewing of three-dimensional scientific data such as 3D imagery (i.e. CT, MRI, PET, 3D ultrasound, 3D microscopy), CAD and polygon models, and vector data (e.g. for flow visualization). Furthermore, amira allows the accurate reconstruction of 3D models from image data, e.g. for surgical planning, prosthesis design, reverse engineering, prototyping, and similar applications. TGS graphics solutions are widely used by professionals in microscopy, biology, neuroscience, medical research, geosciences, oil & gas, material science, visual simulation, engineering, and many other areas.

With the increasing accuracy of 3D scanning technology and with the growing complexity of interactive 3D simulation, interactive visual processing of very large data is currently one of the most important features required by TGS customers. The AMD64 architecture provides excellent processor performance and large memory address space, as well as high-speed and low-latency memory and I/O bandwidth through HyperTransport™ technology. In addition, the native 32-bit backward-compatibility enables customers to use existing 32-bit software along with true 64-bit products. By combining AMD64 processors with top-of-the-line AGP-based graphics accelerators and other high-end components, the Fujitsu-Siemens Celsius V810 is a powerful professional 3D graphics workstation.

blender was originally designed for 64 bit sgi (or irix?) systems, it ought to work just fine
