keep in mind i am only novice-intermediate at animating and very new to modeling.(i usually download the models) so this is my first attempt at modeling something. any tips pointers suggestions especially about the color haha. thanks!
Lighting. While the model is OK, the lighting lets down the scene. Go to the lamp, and enable “Ray Shadow” Then go to the world buttons and enable ambient occlusion, with a setting of 0.3. Then re-render it.
This procedure gives the model shadows, but also gives it general lighting. (another method is to use environment lighting in 2.5x)
Textures are another thing that this model needs.
A wooden body! Give it worn metal, try using images and UV’s instead of procedural. (If you need a description on how just ask)
Try giving it a floor, it just makes a model look better than having it floating
I notice that most of the objects are primitives, try moving vertices’s around in edit mode (tab) and flare the legs near the joints.
Get used to edit mode, as it is the only real way to model mechanical objects. Extrude (E key) is a good key to know.
Knowing the key shortcuts (mostly G, S and R really help)
(not sure If I like the blue spikes, but it defiantly needs something there, can’t think what)
Welcome to Blenderartists, and I hope you keep going, It is a very good start on Blender.
If you need any help with learning modeling, just drop me a Private Message, I’m more than willing to help.
At blendercookie.com search for tut about studio background and 3p lighting. This will improve render greatly
