How I imagine my first PC in the early 90s, looking back on it from 2019 (hint: it was not fast).
Doom was the first proper game I played when my dad (working in the US at the time) posted some floppy disks back to me. It blew my mind. Windows 95/98 was my first proper OS, and I spent most of my teenage years on MSN messenger (just seeing that MSN window has huge nostalgia for me!).
Made for the Sketchfab November 2019 Retro Electornics Challenge.
Made entirely in Blender (and Gimp). Exported to Sketchfab with my add-on SimpleBake, available on Blender Market.
I wondered why the case was open on the wrong side, until I looked inside. So cute! Great job!
This memory lane, thanks for triggering it. 486DX66, 4 megs of RAM, can’t even remember the HDD. Sound card? What’s that?.. Win3.11. The sounds it made turning on, that obnoxious beep, then HDD and FDD initializing! To get DOOM, we had to exchange the floppies twice, in two packages two disks were unreadable. Awesome graphics, amazing PC speaker sound effects.
You know, until I read your comment, I hadn’t considered that at all - not even for a second. You are totally right, it’s the wrong side!
Having Googled it, right side opening cases do exist, but they are rare.
If anyone else asks me about that I’m going to outright lie and say “yeah, obviously, but it was an artistic decision”.
Yep, I am sucker for nostalgia. Sat in my bedroom as a teenager, talking away on MSN messenger, playing DOS games… then at some point BOOM. I’m old.
