no the gpu is also enabled for rendering acceleration with cycles, you should do some tests by selecting cycles instead of eevee in the rendering panel and pressing F12 or Z key (with the mouse on the 3d view)—> rendered

I’m not able to run cycles benchmarks as it requires 12GB or more RAM, while there are only 4 GB on Jetson Nano.

I did the test as you suggested. I toggled between CPU and GPU, but couldn’t tell much difference there. Both are slow…

Do you mean that you did some rendering tests with cycles?

That’s what I did. I meant to say between “CPU” and “GPU Compute”, I didn’t tell much difference. After selecting “GPU Compute” in the “Device” dropdown list, “GPU Compute” got grayed out. Does it tell anything, like GPU is not actually in use?

from the system_nfo, CUDA it seems to be supported …
but if the menu turns gray, it means that something disables it for some reason … so it is likely that cuda acceleration is not used …

  • 1 verify that the cuda drivers are available…

  • 2 it’s a bit old and related to x86 machines, but you might find some useful info here.

Thanks. Now CUDA started working on my Jetson Nano. I needed to do two things:

  • Add /usr/local/cuda/bin to PATH and /usr/local/cuda/lib64 to LD_LIBRARY_PATH
  • Check a checkbox without any description under “NVIDIA Tegra X1 (Display)” (See my previous video on YoutTube. You’ll notice there’s an extra checkbox below “Tegra X1 (Display)”)

Now, “GPU Compute” is not grayed out. I got log from blender as shown below.

Compiling CUDA kernel took ~10min or so with space_raceship.blend. Rendering seems slightly faster. GPU load is 100% during the rendering.

What about setting up multiples of these to create a render farm?

Very interested in the low power use for a mobile application.

It’s old tech and isn’t cost effective compared to newer chips.

And with his sister major, the Jetson TX2 how is the situation, too expensive?
