A bunch of cubes (anim)

Hi, I already posted this at Nicodigital, but anyway, here I go again…

This is an animation I was working on lately (4.5MB DivX encoded):

EDITED LINK FOR ALL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH REDIRECTION:

http://argoslabs.com/~malefico/argos.zip

Here is a sample frame:

http://malefico3d.com.ar/gallery/imagenes/frame-argos.jpg

Useless info:

1-It was rendered with BF-Raytracer.
2-There are about 44.000 cubes flying around.
3- Several sequence plugins involved.
4- No cubes were harmed during the process.
5- I couldn’t include a “yellow cube with interesting lighting” because of copyrights/trademarks.
6- A couple of hundreds of frames took 2.5 hours each to render ! (main sequence)

BTW, Argoslabs is a spanish software company which is developing games using only GPL tools ! (more news to come soon…). Check out http://argoslabs.com !

That’s really nice!!! I’m warping to your website now…

Cheers

Thorsten

This is absolutely fantastic. It reminds me of the Honda (I think) commercial in which an entire car is built of lego blocks. You did a fantastic job on this animation and its incredibly professional looking. I’m very curious to see how you managed to make the cubes fly around in big swarms so convincingly. I’m sure there a number of Matrix Revolutions fans who’d love to do that with a bunch of robots.

Great work malefico…some of the best I’ve seen.

This is indeed amazing. The introductory shot is absolutely great. I can only think of - lattice deformation of particles? Or is it one of the flocks scripts?

It seems something happened to the file, only a few bytes that I can download, not playable …

Excellent, indeed!

Are the glowing swoop-y arcs that fly around the logo at the end
also done in Blender?

Hi thanks for the comments !

Fuzzymoose: EVERYTHING was done in Blender. Yes, those are particles thru lattices at the beginning and in the arcs too. Lots of particles everyhwere.

thorwill: Try a little later, servers are sometimes difficult :frowning:

Thank you guys !

Very cool animation. Only thing that bothers me is the ground in the end-sequence. There is so much happening in the sky, but the ground , the lower half of the image, is just boring desert. Well, but this is just my opinion! I like the animation. Very interesting! Great lighting!

This is some primo logo animation work malefico!

the lower half of the image, is just boring desert

Yup you’re right. I was thinking about that too. After posting the first message I came up with this update:

http://malefico3d.com.ar/movies/argos.zip

Which I think is the final version.

Thanx everyone for all the C&C (a lot of C and just a few C :expressionless: )

I get small ~500 byte files on both of those too, but only when I try to “save as.”

Just click the link and it will work fine.

VERY cool.

Very nice now. Maybe a little too hard, those rays, but a ground isn’t so disturbing any more.

Sigh, I cannot download…

I get a 500 bytes file mee too :frowning:

Try Netscape

Doesn’t work with Konqueror in any way, wget doesn’t work either, but no problem with Mozilla!?

It looks absolutely professional!

But I have Javascript turned off most of the time, because of many sites doing stupid things with it. Gives me a blank start page at argoslabs.com. Luckily I looked into the source and copied the real link from there. At least the main navigation (havn’t looked further) works with plain HTML, so why the onLoad thing on first page? Please consider to fix (or have fixed) that.

Hum, many people having problems to download…

Try this:

I think it has to do with redirectioning or something like that.

Now THATS how you use Blender; from now on, that’s how you use Blender. That’s what I like to see in an animation. That’s cool. I like that. :stuck_out_tongue:

:o 40,000 plus cubes…EXCELLENT!

Thank you! It worked for me, now

Really cute. Did you used the Build animation effect for the ARGOS logo?

Really cute. Did you used the Build animation effect for the ARGOS logo?

No I didn’t. Actually, the logo is a curve, so…
What I did was to animate alpha with an empty. Problem was that if I did the alpha anim in same scene that little cubes, the raytraced reflections of them showed the logo EVEN WHEN it had alpha zero at that time ! So, I had to render separately and compose using the wipeout plugin (I tried first the MUL-SUB-ADD method but it left a nasty black border… wipe out just worked great)
Maybe I got too technical but I think everyone will get the gist.

Thanx for the comments to all !
