A Cathedral

So this is a cathedral that I’ve been working on for a while. Also, I just figured out how to get Yafray to work with the stupid path thing on windows 2000, so hurrah for me. Anyway, I’ve created the pillars for this cathedral. I think i’m going to make the benches better.
The main thing i’m working on in the cathedral is to have a stained glass window in the wall at the center of the picture, and to have all the lighting come from that. I tried it once, and of course, i messed up horribly. So if you have suggestions for a lighting set up for that, just drop a post.

Here it is.

if you’re using yafray, i would make a really cool window, have a photon light or two behind it, and show off some caustics, it would make it look friggin awesome! Overall it looks very good, though the pillars dont seem to be sitting right with the ground, they look a little unnatural.

You have a very effective gloomy mood established already. Try to build on it.

It still looks like you have quite a long way to go before you finish, but I would suggest you keep chipping away on the details. Also, I would love to see some intricate designs painted/engraved on the ceiling.

shouldn’t the pillars cast some defined shadows? also, the greenish pillars are an odd contrast with the brownish red ground and darker brown of the stairs. The dark theming is a cool effect.

Looks nice nice add a round glass like this:

The pillars look like youve just pulled em in to ground add a standard at the bottom something like this:

(just a strange example couldnt explain it and find a good pic)

Good luck with it.
Matt

Thanks Centauri, that’s really nice of you to say that.

White Boy, I think I’ll try adding some designs on the ceiling, perhaps with normal texturing. Too bad I still have to learn how to do that, but it would be the best way I think. Didn’t most of the cathedrals from the medieval times have frescoes, and thats what normal mapping is.

Katt, I’m not sure what pillars are green, it might be your monitor or something, but thanks for the compliment!

Maaatt, Thank you so much for the images. Those are amazing. The rose window is the perfect example i needed to work off of. I think I’ll do one pane, and then rotate duplicate it like 20 times. I’m afraid im going to have to work on the glass effects first. I expect that it will be a while before i post this image again.

…also, the arches look like they are curved in, or “sunk in”. Looks good so far.
