I’m sorry to ask this, but I need some help.

How do you make edge loops?

How do you cut? Do you use split to cut or what?

Also:

Does anyone know where I can get a good reference pic of a Marvel, DC, or Spawn character?

Hit K in the 3D window and select a face loop then Shft-K or K again. Those tools are also available in the Mesh menu on the header under Edges.
