I am trying so hard to get into Blender, but am running into some issues that are annoying me beyond beleif. I am familiar with 3ds max, and I love the idea of open source modelling. Any help is greatly appreciated:
Issue #1: Scaling universally. I am an avid unity user and I am used to being able to select the center of my scaling gizmo and scaling in all axis. The blender scaling tool doesn’t appear to do this. It also appears to be very difficult to scale in two axis. Normally, I would scale up one and then see the value I had scaled one axis by, and then just type it in for the second axis. In Blender, it seems like I have to check the constraint box on the scale transform window to even get it to scale in that direction, which seems overly tedious. I am also using a dual monitor setup, and I can’t stand the sensitivity on the transform functions when modelling. For example, I hit the scale button and begin to move my mouse to scale it… I either get instantly microscopic or instantly gigantic with about a centimeter of mouse movement. There seems to be no precision whatsoever. It also becomes an issue when I am trying to scale or use the transform functions and it isn’t getting large or small enough, when my cursor moves off screen onto the second monitor, the function doesn’t respond and only allows me to scale or what have you a limited amount.
Issue #2: The undo. Say I select a ring of edges and I have a complex selection, when I accidentally click elsewhere and deselect them, I hit undo thinking I will reselect them. Instead, it undos the last modification of geometry I did and selects the edges/polys/verts I had one BEFORE the one I want. Is there any way to change either of these? It’s becoming unworkably frustrating.

If you use the transform widget, use the white circle of the widget to scale in all 3 axes

Scale is 2 axes at once by holding shift and using the scale widget. Shift and scaling X will scale the other two axes.
When transforming, holding the Ctrl key will give finer precision.
You can also enable Continuous Grab in the user preferences to allow your mouse movement not to be restricted to the limits of your screen
You appear to be using the widget for transforming, probably because of 3DSM. Blender is designed to be more shortcut based and you will give more control by using the keyboard shortcuts to scale 1, 2 or 3 axis and you can transform precise amounts with numeric input.
I think this is largely determined by how close the mouse cursor is to the center of scaling. If the cursor is close to the center, then very small movements of the mouse yield vary large amounts of scaling. If you move the mouse cursor away from the center of scaling before pressing the scaling button, the amount of scaling is smaller and more easily controlled.
I don’t understand the issue you’re having with this one. The undo feature works for me exactly like you’d expect. Selections are un-doable for me so if I accidentally select/deselect something, hitting undo will immediately go back to the state I was in before I made the improper selection. Not sure if there’s some setting you can change, but undo works perfectly for me.
To add to what has been already told, when you use the widget for scaling it’s possible to grab one axis handle and then middle mouse click to scale along all axes. Similarly, you can shift+MMB click on the axis near the cursor to constraint scaling along the other two.
I don’t personally use the widget, shortcuts are fast and give a nice control over the transformations.
