A fictional Smith&Wesson revolver with scenery - Hellsing fanart

The original render was something like 2600x1200 with 16x OSA, here cropped and resized to 1600x991. Less than that and the readibility of text would suffer, which is actually one of the bad points in this render. Other than that I like it, all the textures except the handle one and S&W logo are self made.

Rendered with Blender internal in 31 minutes.

PS. Terribly sorry if this section is meant for projects of commercial quality.

The only part that I don’t like is the shadow around the grip. Other than that, it looks photo-realistic

ehhh i wouldnt go that far to say it was photorealistic. the materials are off the metal looks kinda strange that it is so blurred in the middle and the edges are so shiney. the lighting seems a bit off. the render overall is pretty noisey Im pretty new to blender is this a normal render time for an image like this?? this is something I know mental ray or vray would render in a couple minutes at most. what are render times like with blender? 31 min seems way to long for this image.

Hmm, Im gonna have to agree. It ddoesnt look bad, but lighting techniques kinda mess it up.

As has been mentioned, the hdr map youre using is a little harsh, and it doesnt mesh well with the very soft(blurred) parts of the shaders.

Also, with 31 minutes of rendertimes, youd do better to use yafray which could achieve much better results in less time.

Its not a bad render, but I wouldnt say photoreal. A few things are throwing it off, tweak thsoe out and you should be good.

Did you use AO? My first reaction was: Oh! nice Indigo Render.

Yes I used AO.

And I agree it isn’t photorealistic at all, mostly due to my extreme noobishness in materials and lightning.

The factors prolonging the render time were: Spot lamp with buffer shadow size 2048, AO, render size 2600x1200 with 16x OSA.

Don’t know if my computer is ridiculously slow then:spin:

Thanks for the criticism! I’ll try to make my lightning and materials better in the future!

One thing that I just noticed is the diagonal line across the box to the left. Is that by design?

I like this pic. While the gun materials are off, I think they look cool, if you could get that extreme shiny level from the edges all over, that might look cool. Ehhh, maybe not though, i dunno

The handle looks kinda small for this gun, but I think thats how tis sposed to be (?)

Actually it’s a flaw in the geometry, because I had accidentally lifted the vertex in the low right corner. But I like it because it looks like a reflection so I didn’t fix it.
