i am in grade 9, i do not smoke, nor will i ever. this is why.
an honest story that happend to me today in tech.
our teacher was trying to fix a computer for one of the teachers. id say it was about 5 years old or so.
so he couldnt get it to boot, and for some reason he was asking me to do all the stuff for him today.
so he said ‘nick come take this computer up to fourth’ i said ok and started walking up there.
he came with me and while we were walking i could hear rattling. so i tell him ‘you know the heatsink has fallen off in here eh>’
he says
‘how do you know that’
‘i can hear it rattling around’
so we take it back downstairs and he leaves it.
i said you want me to put it back on. he says ok.
so he hands me a screwdriver and me and a friend go to open it.
<dont smoke>
holy crap it was disgusting. the inside was full of some shit that looked like brown mold and was hairy and full of gunk and bugs and other crap. it smelled horrible too.
so i put everything back and the tecgheer comes over and has a look at it.
he says you know what that is right?
i said no it looks liek some gunk.
it was cigarette smoke and tobacco build up. then entire inside f the computer was covered in it. the fan was so clogged up i was surprised it spun around.
it was hairy full of mold and stuff like you wouldnt believe.
it smelled so bad it could knock you over
the computer was less that 5 years old.
i will post a pic tomorrow when i bring my camera.
Of all the reasons I hear to not smoke this is by far a most unique case. Seriously, you’re right, I heard before a lifetime smoker will take up to 10 years off his life span (think of all the blendering you can do ) Not to mention that smoking is full of noxious gases and unhealthy consequences.
Smoking is definatly a filthy habbit which unfortunatly i have done for a while but i’m in the process of quitting now. After feeling the pains of Bronchitis come on this winter I knew it was time to stop…I admire you all for not doing it in the first place, it’s very very unhealthy and addictive.
Smoking really isn’t something you think about though, in all the people I know that started smoking it was because of what was going on around them. For instance, someone very close to me was deployed to Iraq and was in terrible conditions; his wife got in contact over the phone (Which is very rare) with him to tell him that she never loved him that she is leaving him, up until that point he swore he would never drink or smoke, now he does both; right after having a RPG (Unguided Rocket) rip right next to his Humvee, the stress of everything building is usually the cause of smoking except for punk-asses who think that smoking is good and fine; By the time whatever situation has passed, they are hooked.
hydravien, that’s sick but not entirely uncommon. My mom’s car when she was a teenager was a hand-me-down from her aunt, who smoked like crazy. The dashboard was STICKY from all the smoke buildup.
Smoking is the last drug I would even think about doing. Smokers can say what they want, but they’ll die sooner so we’ll see who has the last laugh.
Smoking is a habit and an addiction. Everyone has addictions, just that smocking is a lethal one. I dont see the point ins moking - you know its going to kill you, people are you are uncomfortable and in fact you’re killing them too, cigrattes are expensive (well not in asian countries… so damn), cigrattes decolorizes your teeth, burns some of your tase buds, you tend to choke and cough more often, chest conjetions, heart burns. Why the hell do people smoke?
A research shows that an addiction generates a high in a person. If you are addicted to Blender (im not so I cant tell), each time you use the software, you change as a person temporarily. You are on a high! Thats with me and Sudoku!
In conclusion, smokers - get rid of the habit! Its going to kill you and me!
My dad was watching a commercial about toothpaste, and the commercial was talking about how good their product was because it could take out smoke stains from a cigarette. So a lady put a white cloth to her mouth and released a breath of air, after she took a smoke. It got covered in brown and my dad was thinking,“Look what it does to your lungs!”
Yeah, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to smoke. Even to relieve stress, I mean, sports are probably one of the best ways to do that (sex included ;)). Heh heh.
My university has a campaign going on to ban it all over campus; thankfully that’s already been done in all indoor establishments in the city. I’m not sure as to whether I’ll be voting to ban it in the upcomming referendum, because tobacco sales net us about $50 000 CAD a year, and if people aren’t going to buy them on campus they’ll just go give money to other stores. From an idealistic standpoint, I would vote to ban it, but ideals generally aren’t pragmatic… unfortunately.
People buying cigarettes might net you more money in the short term, but your taxes are what pay for their treatment when they start hocking up a lung. Banning cigarettes will probably save you money.
/on soap box
This applies to any health related matter too. The rubbish that people eat and the less exercise they do, the more it costs you in the long run.
<political rant>IMO, its not the governments responsibility to pay for someone who made bad decisions for their lives… Socialized health care, or really socialized anything is bad idea… Total freedom is not without its responsibility, and if you cant be responsible about your life, why should anybody help you?</rant>
ok, anyway, I’ve dealt with this too, tarbunnies… good times, just make sure you use some cleaner on all the fans, the bearings tend to get gunked up… A good nonconductive solvent does wonders… WD40 works most of the time… Its gross, it stinks, and it bungles computers up faster than it bungles up your lungs…
If it were a computer i was getting i would give the whole thing a good cleanin’ up… I hate working on smokers’ computers… You think your situation is bad, try living in a place where a lot of the roads outside of town are still dirt… lots of Dust+ lots of Tar = tarcase. The whole thing kinda comes out as a really nasty greenish black brick of muddy tar… Doesnt that ilicit some great vibes? Fortunately there are few of those people living around here… but still… its bad enough blowing out a computer caked with a bunch of dust… let alone the tar from tobacco…
Ever saw a white painted wall of someone who smokes in his house? Try to paint it for the 2th time white, and you find out that the first paint aint white anymore but applies more to yellow then whatever it has to be. :-?
I have a question. what is so great about inhaling toxic smoke into your lungs? Is it really that great to get a fix on rat poison? I cant even stand campfire smoke let alone poisoned smoke.
I’m a smoker and to be honest I don’t really know how to answer your question Justin. I’ve been trying to quit for months now and I can’t seem to do it.
I’m 100% sure in my experience that smoking is not an addiction, firstly because addiction has some sort of pleasure involved, yet I feel no pleasure at any point in it. (Smokers say they feel pleasure aftering getting a first smoke in ages, all i feel is dizzy and sick).
I read a good book ages ago about how smoking is actually a phobia. It induces a chemical and artificial “fear” sensation. The longer you go without one the higher the level rises, but when you take another cigarette it bumps the level back down again. It just keeps repeating of the level getting higher and you bumping it back down again.
Hope that makes sense. Anyway, wish me luck in quitting, this thread definitely made it feel more urgent
