Haha, well I’m having fun with this one. This is the product my first attempts in using Nurb Curves in blender - I used them to make cross sections for the hull, then filled them and converted to a mesh. So far I havn’t used any reference material (naughty) but I am beginning to now, so I can get the rigging correct. There is plenty more work to be done on the helm area at the back, and of course all the front of the boat has yet to be modelled. I’m also having a pretty hard time making the sail look right, that’s how it looks after about 30 mins of playing with a plane, it will look a bit more realistic when I tweak it
Any comments, most welcome. This is only my second ever model in blender, still learning lots of things
Like whoa! I can’t wait to see this sucker in the water floating around. Really nice, but the sails do need some work like you said.
Are you going to put little people on it? that would be cool. LoL
wow, good job- will this be animated in the future? I like the attention to detail here… I’m not sure what to change for the sail, but the cabin looks nice
I would like to include it in a full scene, bobbing about on the waves with some nice reflections ( i could have reflections of water on the hull and reflections of the hull in the water). I’ll get the model finished then start playing about with materials (unfortunately I am utterly useless in this area - I don’t know anything about UV mapping or how to get it working )
I’ve been working on it today and it’s looking better. A new sail has been added, at the bow, and the old one has been tweaked. I’m pretty happy with the look, its less plasticy and a little more rigid than previously. I have started working on some rigging but its slow and tedious.
I’m actually going to tidy up and finish the cabin area now as this is one area severly lacking detail.
I also messed about trying to get Yafray to work but to no avail. I’ll fiddle with it at home I guess
Okay, I’ve just finished the modelling (maybe a little more detailing to be done it’s all pretty much in place.) I tweaked the shadows so that all objects cast them, and woah it made a big difference. Looks much better now
really really nice job, it will look cool when you get it textured with the uv… then again, IT LOOKS COOL ALREADY! great job, I hope it all works out ok- keep up the great work
Thanks, but it might take a while to texture as this is an area I am really crap in. I could send someone the .blend file if they want to try a quick render in yarfay or something (i cant get yafray working :x )
What is, and how do you do UV texturing? I heard its good for logos etc and fine detailing. Does it let you “paint” a texture onto each face individually or something?
Okay its starting to come together now, most of the base materials are in place. I’m going to do some UV mapping to add fine detail, and some weathering to the boat, then it will be time to make an environment for the vessel to float in I’ll get some pics online tonight
BTW has anyone got a premade bit of ocean anywhere? It will be hell to try and get a nice reflection of the boat on rippling water (or is it okay to do?)
