A Note to Stefano

Stefano:

I used to be a very active participant in the Blender community. I spent a great deal of time helping other blender users, and in general, trying to make a positive contribution. I was recognized for this contribution by a nice gift I received from B@rt. The one thing that really impressed me about B@rt was his ability to manage the community- it was this, in part, that was responsible for my continued participation. That was then.

This is now. Your branding of my recent post as “offtopic” was, I feel, an aribtrary judgement that is inconsistent with both the stated subject of the forum (Chat about anything related to Computer Graphics or elYsiun), as well as other similar topics in this forum that discuss Blender-related anomalies. Having brought this to your attention, maybe you can enlighten me, then, as to why you fellt my paritcular post was “off-topic”.

The questions belong there, everywhere else if Off topic.

Problems that releates to new releases and are posted in the discussion regarding the said release are of course tolerated, because they concern this release directly.

Another thing. If you have any suggestions to make on the functionnality of Blender, than I suggest you do them over at blender.org:

  1. The forums over there are reserved for discussions regarding the development of Blender, so it’s a lot more fitting to post over there (and will attract more developpers).

  2. The volume of posts is a lot higher here than at .org, so there’s a lower chance that your post is going to get burried there.

Regarding why off topic thread gets locked: At one point, the level of off topic discusion was so high that the sections borders really became a bit shady. Sections name that don’t fit their content are useless, so we decided to fix that problem at the source: Off Topic postings.

The definitions of the sections should be clear enough for anyone to make the right choice. Of course, if you posted in the wrong section, no real harm done, an admin will probably notice and lock the thread after saying that it is off topic (I personnally usually advise the person where the post should have belonged). If it’s an ambiguous situation, the topic usually only gets moved.

regards, and I hope this was clear,
Martin

I have no idea what you’ve just said here. It seems like everything BUT an answer to my question.

I indeed find theeth reply very appropriate.

Your previous post contained one question, which shoul have gone in the Q&A Blender General forum, and a feature request.

Feature requests are, indeed, out of the scope of elYsiun, so there is no forum here to accomodate that, www.blender.org has those forums.

Indeed I don’t think developers follow the sheer amount of posts on elYsiun to check for feature requests.

The current policy, since posts are so many, is to lock off topic posts.

regards,
Stefano

The way I learned English, a question is indicated by a question mark. If you look at my post, there are no question marks, and hence, no questions.

What is it, then, about my particular feature request, that makes it a problem, while others go without comment?

Or, perhaps more to the point, what is it about Blender-related feature requests that makes them unrelated to computer graphics?

My guess is that some of them read the forums on a regular basis.

According to the forum definition, my post isn’t off-topic. The defiintion specifically says, “Chat about anything related to Computer Graphics or elYsiun” Nothing I said in my post falls outside of this definition.

I’m sorry if I’ve wasted your time. I think I’ll just stick to the mailing list.

“Well, one’s a problem, and one’s a request.”

I don’t know, when people talk about a problem, they usually want to solve it (Question -> Answer, Problem -> Solution). Or do you think we should make a P&S section too?

What is it, then, about my particular feature request, that makes it a problem, while others go without comment?

You take this locking thing way. Like I said, it is tolerated in the discussion regarding new release because it relates directly to that particular release.
If you want to make bug reports, it is also always a good thing to see the bug tracker at blender.org

My guess is that some of them read the forums on a regular basis.

Your guess and opinions have little weight over the facts that the developer forums are located at the blender.org site while the forums here are the user community forums.
If you want to talk about the development of Blender you should go to the develpment forums. Quite logical don’t you think?
