Well, this is a question for theeth because he looks to me quite experienced about this stuff, but any suggestion from anybody is really welcome, of course!
The question is:
I have to make a rendering with motion blur, so let me say that I set the oversample level to 16; in this case I left the motion blur (Bf button) factor to default, that is 0.500. Correct?
So, if I set the oversample to 8, have I to set the Bf to 1.000 to have a realistic motion blur?
And from here on, with oversample 11 = Bf 0.727 and with oversample 5 = Bf 1.600?
Is this correct or there is a different way to calculate the motion blur factor in relation with the oversample level?

The Bf ‘Blur factor’ is the time the camera shutter stays open, and is not related to the OSA level in the way you are saying.
The OSA level says how many subframes are taken while the Bf says the interval in which they are taken
THis means that the lower is Bf the less ‘blurrier’ the frame will be
and the highr the OSA the better quality the blur will be.
In particular if Bf is 1 or above an OSA of 5 gives really poor results because you can see the single sub-frames pretty well, so the higher the Bf the higher the OSA (more or less the contrary of what you said )

a section on this!!!

Eh eh… I see. So it is enough I let the Bf value to 0.500, that means “half a frame”, isn’t it? But then, what is the Bf button useful for? Not for animation, I guess, but maybe for some special effect for stills?

This is an animation with Bf=1 and OSA=5 (it is not enought, bu I wanted it to take not too much to render.
Really good (but what is “The Cube”?). But now I’m a little confused: Bf=1 means that the shutter cover 1 frame, so with OSA 5 the motion should be “blocky”, or not? Maybe it depends on the distance of the object in motion from the camera…
And why did you decide to increase the Bf value to 1.00? Is there any kind of rule for this?

Damn!.. But there must be some kind of equation… after all, Bf is the time the virtual shutter of the camera stay opened during exposition…
