A river *tut p. #2; movie p. #2*

Well, I was willing to test a suggestion by harkyman on making trees, and I was also eager to test an idea of mine to make water which I used on the Volcano but which was unappreciable there.

So here is a test.

The land is of course made with BWF, and there are just 3 non-procedural textures there  No postpro at all.

Comments?

P.S. I know that the rock texture stretches badly :frowning:

It looks very good. Excellent job on the water.

The rock texture is a little stretched, but not badly IMO.

BgDM

Nice
I couldn’t fins the harkyman’s post on those trees, but I suspect that they are simple planes with tree texture and alpha?

Thanx both

you haven’t foud what you searched because it was a PM

Stefano

Blech :stuck_out_tongue:
I guess you wouldn’t want to divulge that little secret?

Why should I tell you what you already know

Stefano

Looks very good

Couple of crits:

  • The trees don’t seem to be effected by the mist as much as the surrounding cliff towards the back of the image. This makes them stand out too sharply against everything else. Particularly those at the edge of the cliff.

  • The water seems too still, or maybe that’s just me :-?

Very nice

the water texture is great

The tree texture could be more random and the rocks are too smooth IMO and the texture could be scaled down ( if you know what I mean %|)

Thanx

This might be due to the fact that the mist has a density decreasing with quote, and that trees are much more saturated in colour that rocks

It is avery slow river, almost a pond

Yes, there are just two trees, dupliverted
Yes, they are smooth, but I wanted them ‘eroded’
I played a lot with that texture, and I’m not satisfied yet, will try.

Stefano

Looks good.

Can you make the terrain a little rough with your script. So instead of smooth sand stone canyon walls like your picture has you can have a more eroded terrain.

all i can say is…wow. very very nice, way outa my capabilities, u mind telling how u did the water?

:<

dude, this completely sucks… it isn’t even worth a zoro!

no actually, IT BLOWS ME AWAY! jeezo! how the heck do you model so great? ack! just… tooo… reeeeaalistics!!!slsslllsll!!! ack!

I love it! worth twenty ztonzy’s :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z :Z

Edit: sorry, I do have a crit though, the water is PickzeLateds! pixelated

Nice, it kind of reminds me of the land from Ice Age, sorta cartoony and sureal. You should toss in a couple of glaciers (spelling?), big walls of ice in the background, i think that would look super sweeeet!!!

Anwayz, good stuff man!!!

Matt

Blend on, and blend well!!!

it looks great… it reminds me of the Never Never land in the movie Hook. it looks great

Thanx

Yes, but the price in polys would be sooo high

Tutorial will be ready soon, stay tuned

really? where?

heheh, why not  ?

Darn, I’m not sure I’ve seen that movie…

Thanx again… I’m halfway in the tut

Stefano

hmm, wow! you got my name looking like dmbADcAT… funky, anyway, where your trees reflect in the water, it looks like |_|-/||_=| just all pixilatarded!

Sorry, that’s not pixellation, that’s a reflection over a wavy water.

If it were pixellation it would have blocky, badly aliased contours.

What you had is places where waves makes the normals let you see a reflection of tree and land and places where the normals let you see the reflection of the sky.

I’m pretty satisfied with that… I’m less satisfied with stone textures…

Stefano

Very good idea for water depth! 8) I LOVE it. you are a genius. I gotta play with it!

…oh. the other stuff’s nice too.

Thank you mr. S68!

Not only you provided this nice landscape tutorial, but also, thanks to this particular little tutorial I finally figured out how to apply nice looking refractin efects. Thank you, I’ve been pondering that for a while.
