A simple question regarding critiques and comments of peoples 3D works...

What causes a person to receive barely any comments for his work? Even if he asks for critique for improving a model or so?
Is it his styles not appealing or that his work is already good enough?

IMHO - I think it is because the art is not developed enough. If I see a stick figure and they want a critique it seems a waste of time. They haven’t spent any time developing their art skills. If your art shows that you have done research and worked on your skills and spent time developing them it shows you are serious.
Then I feel much more comfortable spending time writing how to improve or giving opinion.

Also, those sections are pretty active and stuff tends to get buried pretty fast- post at the wrong time and down you go…

Another thing to consider is that issues might not actually be lack of Blender skills. Creating art requires more than just technical expertise in the chosen medium. I know how to extrude, move verts, loop cut, even sculpt but that doesn’t make me a good character modeller. Getting a good and/or interesting likeness requires some artistic skill as well. Jonathan Williamson suggests any one who wants to be a good character modeller take a few life drawing classes. This is all relevant to your question because critique in this area is very hard to give. Besides, developing good art skills allows you to see what’s wrong with your own work rather than depending on others to tell you.

makes sense…
