a small question of animation

Hi all,

I know blender is a powerful animation tool but i am going to do is just a very simple animtaion, a car moving on a landscape. Well, i found that without building the bones, i can make an animation just by using the IPO to save the position status of my car with the frames and then just playing the frames.

But there comes one problem: I found that the view during the whole animation is not changing. I did change the view angle of the scene when I was saving the potions of the car with the frame, but once rendered, the view stayed the same from start to finish.

What i want is just to watch my car move from different view angles including zooming in and out, can someone tell me how to make it happen?

Many thanks

It is hard to understand fully what the problem is

but here are a few ideas (maybe you can post the .blend or a screenshot of the problem)

are you changing the IPO curves for your car or the camera?
(to do the zoom you will probably need need to animate the camera and the car)

does the car move the way you want in the 3D window?

do you have the project set to render the full animation?
ie, if your car takes 100 frames to get form point A to point B - are you rendering the full 100 frames

are you rendering the animation (ctrl F12) or just the single frame (F12)

Be sure to press IKEY > LocRot or IKEY >> Rot for the camera. You may have only saved the rotation of the camera. If you split your screen in half and open the IPO curve editor whilst having your camera selected you should be able to see what the problem is.

Oh, i did. I save the Loc and Rot both with each frame and i did split the window to two and used one for the IPO.

And i did change the view angle when i was doing this, but when it finished rendering, and it is played, the view angle of the animation just stayed the same

I am changing the IPO curves for my car.
The car moved the way i want.
yes, the full animation is rendered and run, and the car did move, but the PROBLEM is the VIEW ANGLE stayed the same.

I found a better way to make the problem clearer. Please refer to the website

it is a small example of animation, and i did mine using the same way. You can see that when we are watching the cube bouncing, the view angle is not changing. The cube is moving but the sence itself stays still. What i want is to make the view angle changing during the animation.

It is a small example showing making an animation by editing the IPO curves. And I did mine juste used the same method.

You can see that when we are watching the animation, the cube is bouncing while the whole the backgroud or the surrounding stays still cause the view angle is not changing at all. And what i want is just to make the view angle chaing, and as well as zooming in and out during the animation.

I found this car rig online, maybe it can help?

do you mean the camera did not move?

is there more than one camera (you might be rendering the wrong one)
have you set key frames for the camera (perhaps you haven’t changed the IPO curves for the camera, only the car)

Thanks, guys. I found a bettery way to demonstrate my problem. Please refer to the website below :

it is a small example for making the animation by editing the IPO curves. I used exactly the same way to make mine.
You can see that in the animation, the cube is bouncing while the view angle is not changing at all. The whole scence is not rotating or zooming in or out. And what i want is to change the view angle during the animation.

It’s been my experience that Blender will only record IPO’s for what you have selected. Without actually seeing what you are doing, it’s hard to tell what detail you are missing. And believe me, Blender can be a bear until you find the missing detail. Best of luck.

hi all, i have found a better way to demonstrate my problem. Please refer to the website below http://feeblemind.tuxfamily.org/dotclear/index.php/2005/03/08/17-didacticiel-animations-simples-1ere-partie---tutorial-simple-animations-1st-part

This is a small model showing how to use the IPO to make an animation. I did mine using the exactly same way. And you can see that in this animation, the cube is bouncing which means that it is moving ,but the whole sence is still, the view angle is not changing at all, Just like we are standing right in front of the cube and we stay still when we are watching the animation.

What i want is just to make the view angle changed during the animation including zooming in and out.

hi all, i found a better way to demonstrate my problem. Please go to the blender.org website and go to the animation section, you will find an simple animation there which is a red cube bouncing. This example shows how to make an animation by editing the IPO curves, and I did mine using the exactly same way.
The problem is the cube is moving while the whole sence is there still. I would like the view angle changed when the cube is bouncing, and also zooming in and out. I am still waiting for help…

Well assuming you are keying the camera and you see everything good in your 3D View port (pressing ALT-A) but the final render seems like the camera did not move..?..then that camera is not set for rendering…

To solve this problem, go to your original scene (3D view port ), press ALT-A to see your animation. If everything looks good then press 0 (zero) to go to camera view (if you are not there already) then be careful on this since I think this is the problem: in your 3D port where all layers are at, activate the lock icon…then with the camera still selected (OBJECT Mode) press Ctrl-0 to make it the render camera. Then deselect the lock. Try to render now.

To also make sure about any other issue…move this camera to the same layer where the car is, avoiding complications in the Render Layer tab in the Render menu.(Press M with the camera selected…a layer figure will show..select the destination layer)

Otherwise…send me the .Blend file.
Good Luck:D

Are you sure that you’re moving/rotating the camera, not just rotating/panning in the 3D viewport?

(Moving & rotating the camera uses the ‘G’ and ‘R’ keys, whereas rotating & panning in the 3D viewport uses the middle mouse button)

Select the camera object (
), move it to where you want it to be (using G and R), insert a keyframe then move forward a few frames. Once again move it to where you want it to be and insert another keyframe. Continue this until the end of the animation.

This tutorial might be helpful…

sorry but i didn’t use the camera at all…do you mean that if i want to have a changing view angle and to zoom in and out ,i HAVE TO use the camera?

I was seeing this coming
Yes, you need a camera.
This works like real world, you need to have something in your scene, a camera to film it and at least one lamp to light it. To move the camera arround you have to key frame it or parent it to a moving object (the car for instance)

well my friend for what I have read…you did not even have a camera…! Well no big deal…no offense either…but I would recommend you to start from the very beginning. Get into “my first animation in 30 minutes”…(Blender.org) and learn the basics of Blender.

well if he did not know that he needed a camera…then much less he will know about parenting I guess…he should start from the beginning so he can get a solid foundation of Blender for time to come:eyebrowlift:

this should have been evident from my first reply :stuck_out_tongue:

But now you know you need a camera here is a tip
press spacebar >add > camera
then if you always want the camera to face the car
right click the camera > then shift right click the car > press Ctrl+T (Track to constraint)
now when you animate the camera, it will always face the car
