For your first, i feel like its pretty good. Yes the samples. But the grass looks pretty good! I was pleasantly surprised by it. What are the specs on your computer? Are you using CPU or GPU? Because ten minutes for 10 samples still seems a little slow. No matter, I Look forward to seeing the finished product!
Are you using some type of hdri for lighting or reflections? It’s tough to tell with such low samples. You might also consider posting screen shot of your node set up for the water. As kyaustad mentioned, the grass looks pretty good. You could also consider incorporating other types of weeds ect, using additional particle systems.
I rendered in CPU, because my pc does not hat a nVidia card.
OS = Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.140303-2144)
Processor = Intel® Atom™ CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz (4 CPUs), ~1.8GHz
Memory = 2048MB RAM
Graphics card = Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
It’s also a shit.
I am using a free HDRi image for lighting and a sun lamp and i used Clamp Indirect 1.0 and Multiple Importance Sample 2048 to remove all the fireflies.
I could be mistaken because of the samples, but it appears the grass isn’t like flat blades but more like long, bent cones - the material is really good, but I’d like to see thick, marshy grass in place. That harsh edge between water and dirt/mud would be really hard to do in my opinion since I think in real life it relies on volume. One work-around I’d suggest would be to use the grass to provide the transition; have it grow not just from the dirt, but from an inch-deep of water too at the edges. Overall, the piece is quite nice already, you have a very strong starting point.
yes and what particle setup did you use in the cycle hair rendering and the hair particle setup itself. I would like to see that. I think the grass is quite good!
