A specific question

Guys this wall hasn’t been re baked and yes I’m attempting a walk through here. (Had to make changes and now the wall has to be re baked) My only question is why do the hung pieces look as if they are floating. They have depth and are on the wall. Could it be the emission which we have to live with at whatever value. Has anyone run across this?

And, yes the pieces are being lit by area lights. PR man has shutters for spotlights but Cycles does not right now. And, hell yes I’m to lazy to even consider modeling a spot with shutters and going through all that with each picture. If anyone has run into this specific problem I would appreciate your input.

I do have AO at 0.5 here and once read AO came from the walls in a interior scene. Not really a tech guy so somehow that would make sense to me or not. : ) Could it be the AO

AO would darken everything around the picture. The AO at the tops of the pictures are very subtle. That said, why do you think that they appear to be floating? Their surfaces are several inches from the wall. They don’t look like they are floating to me.

However, near paintings’ corners, the shadows’ edges are blurred. If that is what you are talking about, you can make the shadows harder by reducing the “size” of your area lights.

AustinCPrescott thanks for answering and the observations. I have five walls baked in this place and that is the first full rich shadow I’ve seen in awhile. I think that tripped me into this floating mode. Also the contrast of the white drawing.

Don’t get me wrong without baking in Cycles this little projects wouldn’t even be moving along. But, I simply can’t get the same results with baking. And, I’ve played with most everything. It might well be in there and I simply can’t pull it off. Anyway once again thanks.

You are welcome. I hope that you can get your scene to bake the way you want it to.
