I need some help with my rig of this fox. I’m trying to make him walk, something I have been trying to do for a week now.

I start with moving his left forward leg, and at the same time his back right leg. And then I do the opposite for the other two legs. I have divided the walk cycle on 20 frames. But it just looks like crap, and it’s only his legs that is moving. He looks like a robot when he moves.

How can I make him get more natural movements, I know my rig isn’t very good. And I also know that there’s something called constraitns. I have no idea what they do, but I know that in order to get realistic movement. I need to use constraints.

So I wonder if someone could take a look at my rig and say why my walk cycle looks like crap. And what I should try to do to make it look better. My english is poor, and my blender skills too. So don’t flame me for in your eyes being stupid.

Actually, that’s a nice looking little character. The rig is too simple, though. The biggest thing missing is IK constraints on the legs. The legs would work better as IK chains. Read about how to set those up here:


also, timing. 30 frames is one second, so you need to time each foot placement to the half second or so.
