Absolute noob - trying to model heart with nurbs sphere but mesh is square

Hi All

I’ve followed the steps to add a nurbs sphere but when I go into edit mode front view I see this. What have I done wrong?

I’m using Blender for the first time and following the Blender Nation tutorial.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I followed the steps exactly so can’t understand what the problem could be.

  • Cropped your screenshot which leaves information out (such as the version). You can take screenshot of the whole Blender window with ctrl+F3, or window menu -> save screenshot.
  • Mentioned tutorial but didn’t provide means to find it. It’s likely you’re following a tutorial that was made in january 2006. Nothing extraordinary in it though, other than it was for much older Blender. http://www.blendernation.com/tutorials/blender-3d-beginner-tutorial-creating-a-heart/

You’re in perspective viewmode. Numpad_5 to switch to orthographic and it then matches what is shown in the tutorial (if that’s the one you’re following).

Note that Blender is mainly a polygonal modeler and its nurbs tools haven’t been updated in a long time. Doesn’t matter for what you’re doing there but don’t expect to be using nurbs in Blender. If you know you absolutely need nurbs capability and the reasons for it, look for other software.

press numpad 5

Sorry. It’s version 2.72b.

I don’t even understand why I need nurbs yet or even what nurbs means. I’m completely overwhelmed but determined to hang in and learn the programme.

I have watched a number of tutorials but they’re so confusing so I need to do the actual step-by-step exercises otherwise it’s a bit like watching heart bypass surgery and then being handed a scalpel!

When I press numpad 5 I get this result.

Is there a better tutorial for those of us who haven’t a clue maybe?

I thought in the terms here we aren’t allowed to post URLs so hopefully I won’t get into bother for the link to the Blender tutorial I’m following:

Many thanks Modron. I’ll give it a try!
