Abstract Machinery Piece (as usual...)

Hello everyone, I dug up one of my older works to post it now, just to test all the new features of the vBulletin…

Well, if you know what kind of stuff I’m doing, this one won’t surprise you. An abstract machine, never really finished because I never really liked this piece.
Rendered with Blender’s Internal (AO Pass) and Yafray (an IBlighted pass for the shiny reflections), postprocessed with PS (combining the renders, adding the border and text). This is the model used in the piece that is linked in the description of the picture.

Hope you like it

(BTW: How is it possible to link a page showing some text instead of the actual link…hope you get what I mean ^^; ).

Wow, very very nice modeling! And I like the depth of field in the picture. Hope you’ll use it for a nice scene or an animation…

Edit: 5 stars from me too.

excellent

that’s the kind of stuff that when I look at it, I tell myself “I wish I was the one that did it”.

Awesome job, 5 stars from me

nice… post on cgtalk

Great piece, as usual.

Your technical renders always look like they could actually exist, which is a very hard thing to do when combining these elements. You manage to pull it off all the time.

Very nice work, great textures.

nice moddeling… very original

Good work, I’m very impressed.
As to your question, simple do the following (remove the space after the backslash):

[url="http://WEB ADDRESS"]some text that you want to be a link[/ URL]

really cool stuff. how long did this take to execute? amazing detail.

Myke, great work. Can you tell us which modelling techniques you have used?

I like it a lot.
The shading, machinery, lighting and the 2D finishing touch. Very good work.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback! (and 4 stars look good, too  ).

@Milky: I fear there won’t be a nice scene or animation. Especially an animation would take far too long to render.

@Ecks: Oh, don’t tell me, I know that feeling…(it often occurs while looking at YOUR stuff, for example…).

@BgDM: Yes, that’s exactly what I’m trying to achieve, you really got the point, and that makes me really, really happy

@Yoggo: To be honest, not a single texture was used here…all the materials are actually very simple.

@hobbes: Thanks, I’ll try it!

@StompinTom: The modelling didn’t take that long, mostly because I always make heavy use of duplicating and instancing. I just needed quite some time to arrange the copies to get a nice look.

@Alvaro: Sure, there’s not much behind it…
As said above, I always use duplicates and instances of specific parts more than just once and rearrange them to make them look different. I also like to use the spin and spin dup tools, they’re very helpful for the rounded objects. The wires are extruded cylinders bent with the Curve Deform tool that I use very often, too. So, it’s all about Polymodelling and a little subsurfing

Awesome. 5 Stars from me.

dude awesome work, i faved it on Deviant art

wow thats so comlicated 5 stars from me too

really really cool. I like it a lot. Did you try to render it with blender internal?

very nice, my only crits would be…:

  1. im not digging the blur thing going on here… just seems to detract from detail
  2. it looks as if theres a couple of objects missing some smoothing, or an extra subsurf level

wow

that´s a really nice piece

Dude, that is one amazing peice of work!
5 stars from me.
