Not sure if 3-d objects are welcome here, but it’s something to think about as a new format for existing skills. And I definitely count this as art. I designed this pendant for my girlfriend last valentines day. Her initials are CV which as you can see was worked into the design. Originally I modeled the hole for the ring and was going to print it in silver, but it was rejected as silver has a low minimum wall thickness. I wound up scaling it up a little bit, removing the hole, and printing in stainless steel. I had a jeweler drill a hole and put in a loop for the chain to go through. The chain was purchased. Anyway my girlfriend loves it and wears it almost every day. Plus it’s a great conversation piece (“What do you mean you printed it?”)
Looks great Blenderallday, what company did you use? Also did you ask for the metal loop and chain to be added separately or was it all modelled in (the loop that is, not the chain)??
I think this is very nice, and an AWESOME gift… gits you make yourself are just the best, and this turned out great
I have the same curiosity as Hexbob: where did you make it? And how much did it cost?
I’m sure your girlfriend loved it. It is a nice attractive design, simple but elegant. 3d printing has me intrigued but it seems like your modeling has to be perfect to meet their requirements. At some point I’ll have to take the dive and give it a try… which reminds me, my last girlfriend didn’t like the piece of jewlery I made for her… can’t imagine why http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgQS1Dd46oY&list=UUfQgnXElklxLEsZltK3qagg&index=15
Thanks for the nice replies. It’s not going to win any design contents but I feel it’s elegant and simple. Really wish I could have printed it in silver. To answer your questions I printed it through shapeways.com . The silver version would have been about 40 dollars (American) and the Steele was $20. And they’re not too picky, model must be closed and non manifold. it is possibly a little heavier than some jewelry and I wish I made it slightly thinner, but I tried it on and it doesn’t feel heavy. I definitely love looking at it and knowing that I conceived of it, sketched it, modeled it, and had it created. Can’t wait for printer prices to come down. Overall a very positive experience and one I would recommend for any modeler who is in the creative doldrums, or looking for a new creative avenue for blender skills. As my old art teacher used to say: Create!
In future when you make another pendant. Take focus on -> thickness minimum 1 mm for gold , silver and other. Dont model with more than you dont need. Like you have model made 2d sketch then go to thickness 3 mm , is waste of material and will look not to good. Your pendant can be made to look better.
But in the end is your pendant and not mine and I don`t want to have an influence on your own style.
And I must say , 3D printind and Designing is not for all modelers to do. Believe me it is something that not all will like.
Little designs are ok , the hard ones need advance skills.
