Adaptive Subdivision Modifier

Hi,

I’m pretty new to Blender so bare with me.

I’m testing ‘adaptive subdiv’ for displacement and no matter what I do, I’m loosing accuracy in the displacement result.
Displacement textures are from Zbrush and are 32 bits EXR

I did a quick test importing the lv4 mesh directly from Zbrush so that you can see the difference.

I’ve been using displacement from Zbrush with other renderers Arnold/VRay for a long time and I’ve never had that kind of issue.

Anyone knows what might cause this ?

You played with the Dicing Scale ??

And also… it’s still:

Implementation not finished yet, marked as an Experimental Feature Set.

Thanks Okidoki.
I tried many things including the ‘dicing scale’.
I know it’s experimental and that it’s been like that for many years.
I found a workaround for now so that’s ok. I hope they will eventually implement a good ‘Adaptive Subdivision’ modifier though.
Jacques.

Just to make sure, you have set the displacement to use true displacement and not “bump only”, have you? It’s set to bump only by default.

Thank you etn249.
Yes I did all this. I’ll use a workaround for now and will investigate the issue later on.

I might have an other idea. Have you changed the color space of the texture? In Blender, textures that contain data that won’t be visible directly (roughness, normals, displacement) are supposed to be set to non-color. If you don’t do this, the texture will get color-corrected, which will alter the data.
