I have an idea that might be fun. We make a scene which involves a rube goldburg type machine but it is made in pieces. You download the previous persons blend and add a piece that continues on. Then upload it for the next person. We will keep adding pieces until the contraption gets to large to run properly.
guidelines:
-don’t modify it twice in a row.
-don’t add to much.
-don’t add anything to the start, this is to prevent it from screwing up.
-try to limit unnecessary bits and pieces.
-don’t modify someone else’s piece unless it is not working.
-when you are modifying the contraption post that you are, this will stop two people working on it at the same time.
not to say this wouldn’t be a bad idea, the timing is all wrong.
with the current physics contest, most people are not going to want to work on something like this and potentially get someone else to walk away with the prize.
for example, if this machine were entered into the contest by some one who “stole” parts from the blend from this thread, would he really deserve the prize?
maybe im reading this wrong, i dont know
but i do know that if any one is going to work on this thread, you are either going to want either all of the authors to give permission for anyone to use their work in the contest, or some how determine a way to split the prize, or make it clear that you do not want any part of this to be appended into someone else’s contest blend
to sum it up, GREAT idea, but you need to clarify your intentions
for the record i wish i had this idea, as i think it is a great community project.
We will see, but as you said, the timing is wrong.
Good way to address the overlap problem. I would just suggest that you additionally have a constantly updated list of who’s working on what in your first post as well.
This way people won’t have to look over the whole thread just to figure out if they can move on with their idea.
You wouldn’t be able to use this in the contest. You might be able to take some ideas but not copy exactly. We could start this when the contest is over if people want to. It would help to bug test the new release thats coming out soon.
