[ADD-ON] Sketchy 3D — Volumetric Clay Sketcher

Hi everyone,

If you block out organic forms or concept models in Blender, you probably know how clunky it is to constantly scale primitives or freeze your viewport with heavy voxel remeshing.

I created a lightweight add-on called Sketchy 3D to fix this exact issue. It allows you to sketch 3D volumetric clay strokes instantly in Object Mode, keeping you in the flow.

sketchy_3D

Key Features:

  • 3 Projection Modes: Sketch freely in mid-air (Free), snap to mesh surfaces with endpoint sinking (Surface), or lock drawing to a 3D grid (Canvas).
  • Multiple Stroke Profiles: Switch between Round, Square Box, Flat Ribbon, or sweep strokes along any Custom 2D Curve (like a heart shape!).
  • 1-Click Mesh Bake: Draw non-destructively in Object Mode, then join strokes into a single active mesh using ‘Bake Strokes’.
  • Sculpt-Ready (Auto Face Sets): Every new stroke automatically receives a unique Sculpt Face Set ID for instant masking in Sculpt Mode.
  • Natural Pen Dynamics: Custom Smoothstep math for smooth tapering, tablet pressure curves, and organic dome caps.

How to Use:

  1. Select Sketchy 3D from the left Toolbar (N-panel or T-panel).
  2. Choose your Projection Mode (Free, Surface, or Canvas) in the header bar.
  3. Click and drag in the viewport to draw 3D clay strokes!
