Adding an image to one face of a cube

I’ve been looking everywhere for a simple way to add an image texture to one face of a cube. Needless to say I’m a noob. I’m using 2.46. Any help?
Thanks

go to the map inoput and select X X X on bottom left this should limit to one face if i rmember correctly
check wiki page for map input

see pic

if you select face it should appear on top of cube

but i you select cube it will appear on all faces of the cube
by changing the different values for X Y Z it will change the face on which it is appearing

I selected object, went to edit mode
selected just the face
added material, texture image.
messed with map input XYZ
still extended around the cube.

I did select clip in the map image tab in the texture buttons, and that seemed to help.

The scene is dimly lit. How do I make it so that the image looks like its from a TV.
basically I’m trying to make a wall of screens.

Put some Emit value on the image material (F5/Texture/Map To/Emit) than (still under F5) Shaders/Emit 0.0XX value (be carefull… not too much!)

just add an image texture to the cube

and then you can begin to play with the map input

unless you want to doit with UV mapping - but that’s a lot more involving!

Thanks Ricky, I got it. I’m beginning to fall in love with this program, after 5 prior attempts spanning the last 4 years. For some reason it’s starting to click with me. Got lots to learn still. It’s nice to know you can still ask basic questions without getting flamed.

with al the new features you got to read the new features release
thre was a lot added in the last year alone
and blender is becoming more powerfoll continously

but you need patience and pratice and time
then you’ll become a master at modelling in 3D
