Adding bump maps to uv textures for animation.

I’ve looked for tutorials and asked in the irc channel and can’t find an answer.

How do you get a bump map to align with a uv texture for animation. I can add a uv texture and it stays on the model where it needs to go, but I don’t know to add a bump(norm) map to it and have it move with the model during an animation. The answer may be right in front of my face, but I’m new to blender.

Piece of cake, really. Once you have the UV mapping done, then you’ve done all the work.

Just add your bump map in an empty texture chanel for your material and select “UV” for the mapping coordinates.

That’s it.

Thats cool, so I’m guessing the bump has to be the exact same size as the origional uv?

No, try selecting the faces you want with face select and pressing ‘U’ for ‘show texture space’. This will show the selected faces in the UV editor where you can manipulate them accordingly.

Remember, also, that the bump map has to be 8-bit greyscale,if it is to be used.

Really? I thought that although a grey scale was better, any image would work.

no, just when scaled to the same size, the bumps must lay in the same place as the respective things in the col texture

of course, they don’t have to, but it looks better that way

Wouldn’t this screw up the first uv map that you used for these faces?

Thanks for the info :).

This is a correction to my earlier post in this thread, which I am now going to edit…if you tried what i suggested and it didn’t work, sorry! check the edited post! :expressionless:
