Adding detail to parts of model

Hi.

I’m sure this has been asked before, so please only point me in to the direction of a nother thread or tutorial if it exists.

I was wondering if there are some basic techniques one can apply to add details to one part of the model without interfering with the rest. So adding loop cuts is probably not the best way?

you can always insert new geometry without touching the actual model.

Perhaps the knife tool? It will enable you to easily create edges exactly where you want them.

Hello! I am a beginner so far as Blender goes, it’s been about two weeks for me, however! I was browsing through Blender’s addons in the preferences panel and noticed this-> Mesh: Bsurfaces GPL edition. I’m using Bleder 2.65. The wiki link that is provided brings you to a page that has a video that shows the tools set in action. It is very difficult to follow because there is no audio commentary and the person is very skilled and the video looks like it is running in fast forward. Just keep looking. There are some related tools and a few other videos pretty much all linked together once you find one of them. You should be able to find a part of this video slowed down.

I’m not going to post any links just yet because one of the Blender forums I have just signed up with mentioned something about not posting links as part of the user agreement. So until I remember which site that was, I will not be posting links anywhere. Good luck, have fun!
