Adding "texture" with textures?

Basically what I’m trying to figure out is, is there a fairly simple way to add real texture along with textures? For example: if I have a rock or brick wall in my scene and I apply a texture to it, its still flat just with a picture across it pretty much, so to make it look more real I’d like to add a bumpiness to it or like a rigidness to the bricks themselves. I hope I’m being clear, can anyone give me advice on this?

SOLVED. I realized upon posting this that I’m talking about adding texture to materials -_-

I think what you want is bump mapping. It can be accomplished by adding a texture channel ( of type marble, clouds, image…anything really ), and checking ‘nor’ in the influence panel. the influence panel is key to making complex textural effects.
