Adding Vertecics

Hey, Im pritty nooby at Blender but Im not the worst. I am trying to make a gun at the moment and I am folowing a video tut for 3DS max. I know that that program is better then blender but I am wondering if Blender has the feature.

What I want to do it this. Make a plain then add a vertercy in the middle of an edge if you know what I mean. Like selecting the 2 right vertecys then pressing sub-divide. That gets the vertecy where I want it but it is conneced to extra verticys. If anyone understands what I am trying to say please help. If not I will post pictures.

Thanks

Pwnany

In Edit Mode select the 2 vertices you need, press W click Subdivide and Voila, you have a new vertex in the middle of the 2 previous.
Hint: if you want to add vertices where you see fit in your scene, use CTRL+LClick

There are many ways of adding verticies and it depends on the mesh structure you want.

You can:-

*subdivide the whole object
*suddivide a face or edge (you get triangles if you do this)
*click a set of verts and ctrl -c to copy them
*e to extrude if you want to add to the goemetry
*or simply ctrl - lclick if you want a single floating vert you would have to then ‘f’ to connect to other verts to create edges/faces

ps

I used 2ds max a lot and hate it - for my purposes and the way I like working I think blender is much better IMHO

Thanks for the help but they dont really work.

Scarpelius your description sounds like its what I wanted but its not really.

However I relised that what I wanted isn’t posible to make using blender. However I can just do it another way.

What I was asking before was basicaly to make a 5 sided face. which as far as I know is imposible.

Sorry for wasting your time…

Pwnany

is 3dmax better than blender?? hmm… maybe… the reasen that people think it might be because that 3ds site is assigned only with the best pictures made with the pogram… :? whatever…

5 sided faces are not possible with blender. In fact also 4 sided ones are computed like two triangels if you render your image. But I think also other 3d applications (like 3ds max) work this way.

Pwnany,
What you want is possible in blender. Just select all five vertices and press “f” then “Make”.

yeah Trichter, every surface in every mesh modelling program is rendered as triangles.

to see this in action start a render in blender and then hit esc straight away, you’ll all of the tris.

5 sided…

mesh - circle - enter 5 - then sfht f

7 sided

mesh - circle - enter 7 then shft f

12 sided…blah blah blah…

although I prefer to do the “extrude (enter) scale 0 - rem doubles” fandango

Cool!

Thanks for all the help guys!

When I finish the gun- wait… Let me refrase that. If I finish the gun I will definatly post it here!

In CG Talk forums I seen a guy that used 3DS Max for 10 years and switched to Blender, he said it was not an easy switch, but he liked Blender enough to tough it out.

I have used 3DS Max a bit, and I was never able to do things as quickly as I can in Blender.

We need a Blender cheerleading squad
