do other people also have performance problems painting textures in blender ? i mean i have a 5900x , should be enough to handle stutter and lagfree texturepainting ?
I’m using an older zen 2 cpu and the performance is good enough to me. From my experience, brush size affects performance a lot, so make sure your brush size is reasonable.
It happens if you have the entire model behind your brush, like if you doing top of the head or underside of feet, that’s when its the worst.
Its a blender bug where it still calculates everything behind the brush.
Ucupaint 1.2.9 has been released! Huge performance improvements when using bump maps and more bugfixes! ![]()
Finally, ucupaint is approved on extension platform! Get it here if you’re already using Blender 4.2 https://extensions.blender.org/add-ons/ucupaint/ ![]()
Congratulations!
Just a little demo, you can use vertex color for mask or layer and paint them in sculpt mode. Thanks @razielhenzo for the model!
Hi! First of all thank you for such a great tool!
I have a question - is there an option somewhere to set a tiling for texture in layers?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you can access transformation vector of the layer here: https://ucupumar.github.io/ucupaint-wiki/01.02.layer/#transformation-vector
Thank you a lot!
Ucupaint 1.2.10 has been released! Fewer crashes and UI improvements!

Another feature that will be available on Ucupaint 2.0 is driver support! Now you can pair a shapekey to layer opacity! ![]()
Ucupaint 2.0 also has the ability to use vector displacement maps, so you can use this for sculpting layers! ![]()
This is awesome !
After months of work, Ucupaint 2.0 is finally released! It has driver support, realtime displacement, sculpt layers, and more!![]()
Is there a way to apply this to the model itself if we wanted to? I tried using Displace modifier but its obvious that doesn’t work well with VDM lol
You can use ‘Sculpt Image’ button to apply all the enabled vdms to multires. But ucupaint will be on sculpt mode, which you can’t edit any of the layers anymore until you apply the sculpt to image again. Probably I’ll add an easier way to apply the vdms to actual mesh in the future.
Anyway, Ucupaint 2.0.1 has been released! It fixes some issues when you’re trying to update older ucupaint nodes to the newer versions. ![]()
