Fortunately for me it was a simple matter to instruct my junk filter that only content from Elysiun would be accepted when viewing Elysiun.
I am not sure if that really supports elYsiun. But maybe I didn’t understand the whole concept. I thought we are supposed to sometimes click on the links so elY gets money.
Well, now we know at least one who doesn’t care about supporting Elysiun. :x
Elysiun would only need to make a simple addition to the sign-up agreement stating part of the elysiun service requires advertisment to be displayed/ no ad bloacking software…
which would then make it illegal as per ToS to use ad blockers.
well, if this turns out to be a good thing for elysiun(blenderartists) then perhaps they can move to a subscription service with no ads or free w/ adds like other popular forums do. or the other option is to open a tip jar and see if they can drum up enough funds that way to support the site.
At the bass forum I post at, we had and upgraded status for “Supporting Members” who coughed up $20 for their membership. They got to use avatars, which non-supporters didn’t, and also received access to SM-only forums. (Including a forum for political and religious talk, which was deemed too volatile for the regular OT forum.) Depending on the promotion at the time, we also got free t-shirts or hats and such.
I think Elysiun is a great forum, and have learned a ton just by lurking. I would be willing to chip in some money for a board that is such a great resource.
The reasons for there being ads on elysiun were explained in the Sticky Topic posted by Timothy.
And we do not need another thread bashing the decision or questioning the decision about this.
