Hello,

I’m a Modo user and currently looking towards Blender. By now I’ve discovered a ton of awesome features in Blender. However, I couldn’t find some pipeline equivalents with the selection methods in Modo. I will be very grateful if anybody can help me to find out how to do the same in Blender using internal functionality or via an addon/script :

1. Face/polygon loop selection _(half solved)_:
 ![1_PolyLoop](https://blenderartists.org/uploads/default/original/4X/6/3/d/63da84b5d1e0f0053048a92fee7315100477484e.gif)

There is “Edge loop” command in Blender but it works the same way with edges only.
The “mesh.loop\_select” command from the Keymap editor is applied to single face under the cursor only instead of multiple selected polys.

1. Fill the selection area underneath the mouse. If your mouse is over unselected geometry, it will select it. _(solved)_

1. Next Loop selection **(unsolved)**

1. Select another mesh while staying in Edit mode. This feature saves a lot of time _(solved)_.

Some sort of solution for №1:

- Using edges instead of faces
 ![PolyLoop_Edges](https://blenderartists.org/uploads/default/original/4X/7/5/a/75ab80e35c20965bda9509d6679538e2369f6597.gif)
Drawback: you have to change mode to face + extra clicks

- To prevent switching face mode, we can use this method:
 ![PolyLoop_Script](https://blenderartists.org/uploads/default/original/4X/1/4/a/14a87488ae7791611fb83eee10636d74b5268a0f.gif)
Drawback: it’s way-way extra clicks, and it would be better to record it for a macro

Unfortunately both solutions aren’t the same simple method like in Modo. I don’t know why Blender doesn’t have build in option for loop selection

Regarding №4
Awesome [KeKit](https://artbykjell.com/blender.html), made by Modo script developer Kjell Emanuelson, has the function for this. It’s called “Get&Set Edit Mode”

I don’t understand what is going on here: this is Blender, right? What are you doing to select alternate Edges there?

And then selecting loops by apparent selection???

Sure, it’s Blender. Unfortunately Blender doesn’t have face loop selection for multiple faces (I hope yet). So I had to use edges instead.
The algorithm:

1. select an edge pattern
2. select edge rings
3. convert the selected edges into polygons (Ctrl+3)

Do you know what the official name for this function is? When I look up the assigned hotkey, I see this, which to me is not a lot of help:

 ![meshSelect](https://blenderartists.org/uploads/default/original/4X/0/5/f/05f2a99390926f20f5dc2fcc20e2f2901ceabb39.png)

EDIT: Additionally, I’m surprised to see that if you select just one Edge in a cylinder like pictured, hitting CTRL+3 selects TWO faces. wuwt?

Hi, I have an addon made for selection. While it only has the same options as blender, it makes doing certain repetitive selections faster. There’s also a list of many addons I plan dding buttons for [Select panel](https://blenderartists.org/t/select-panel/1200881)

And there’s this addon as well for raycast select. [Ray Cast Selection](https://blenderartists.org/t/ray-cast-selection/1141012)

I guess it’s the same as shown at your screenshot.

It converts selected edges into connected polygons/faces. It’s all internal Blender functionality.

Thank you! I’ll try this addon.
Do you know any workaround for №2: “Fill the selection area underneath the mouse”? I couldn’t find any 🙄

I haven’t tryed Smart Select addon yet. But yes, some part of that functionality looks similar to Ray Cast Selection. What are you talking about is standard Modo’s selection behavior for LMB (quite effective by the way). There are 3 ways I’ve discovered atm. we can implement it in Blender.

I used modified Blender with Modo Simple Config, so this might not work for you. For face loops, press alt and then move the mouse towards the edge of the face (side) you want to loop to.
If the mouse is near upper or lower edge it will be a vertical loop. If it’s near left or right edge, it will be horizontal loop. When you press alt+mouse click towards an edge and then press shift, you will be able to select next polygon loop manually.

Also I think there is a way to select the next loop/face/whatever but I forgot how. I’m also moving from Modo to Blender…

Question: How do you select multiple objects without getting out of edit mode?

I didn’t know Modo had such advanced selection tools. Max had a few others than Blender, but such cases are all ones I could solve with Zaloopok.

I’m pretty sure you solved this one already, you can select one face, select the next and then use “Select Next”. Then use Zaloopok’s Select Ring/ Loop.

Yes, you’re right, I’ve solved it. It isn’t as elegant as in Modo(have to select 2 rows of polys instead of 1), but it works.
Hmm… regarding this Zaloopok addon: [https://github.com/Zuorion/zaloopok](https://github.com/Zuorion/zaloopok) . I tried as you said, but not sure I get it how to achieve the same result:
