Adventurer project

Hi all. I’m launching a large-scale project (at least my biggest one: smiley  ) i.e. making a high quality adventurer (with rigging) to fit into another scene later. I will post the progress of each part of the model and I would like to have some advice as this is my first time doing this. I chose the longer route because I will finish each part individually and then start the other but it is in my opinion the best way to stay motivated in the long term.
This is the first part: the shoes.

Pretty damn awesome stuff. Are you Sculpting or modelling all of this stuff?

 Thank you.
It depends on the part. Sometimes I find it easier to use modeling if the piece needs regularity. You can also mix both like I did with the shoes.
The sword and belt were entirely modeled in Blender. The shoes were sculted in Zbrush, imported into Blender for tweaking and to add small parts (those were modeled  ). After retopo and UV mapping it was imported back into Zbrush for high poly sculpting. The pants were started with a cloth simulation in Blender then reworked in Zbrush.

I finally found some time and motivation to make some other parts of my adventurer. I will try to keep going

Ok, those parts were a real pleasure to do and I’m quite happy of the result.

Hey, the details in the clothing, and the texturing is general looks great.

Keep it up!

I just couldn’t help noticing the hand sticks out as a little lifeless in comparison. I think part of the reason is the general squareness of the palm, and overall flatness of the features.

But otherwise fantastic effort and I look forward to seeing more!

Hey ! Thanks for the tips . I’m not so good with hands anatomy and with time I could’nt see anymore what was wrong even if I have 2 hands in front of me .
I will add the gesture when I will rig the whole thing. I can’t wait to get to this part but I have to take the time to make a good model before.

Ahh, no trouble. Hands are tricky. Even when you have a pair of easy references

Just one other thing though. And this is only an observation, don’t go actioning it right away until you have worked on some other part of your character first, I don’t want to unwittingly be responsible of keeping you bound to the hands at the expense of progress on another component of your work (particularly when the quality is so high).

However, you might want to consider making them a bit meatier. Your character is a sword wielder, so probably if they are older and experienced would have calloused palms (the pad at the first knuckle in particular). As it stands the hands betray a level of novice on your character. Which may or may not be intentional. (For an extreme example check out pictures of John Cena’s hands)
