Basically I’m not much of a designer, which sucks, because when I know EXACTLY what the finished model should look like, I model it in no time. So I’m gonna try posting my progress here.
So for my current animation I need some kind of personal aircraft for a dignitary. It is spaceworthy and it’s not small. If knowing the type of setting or level of civilization in my animation helps - it’s not Star Wars… but I guess as far as mixing style with technology (think roman/greek art with futuristic tech) it is Star Warsy maybe Stargatey.
Here are some links to my first rough pass at it.
First I need to decide the question of size. It’s not small but it’s not huge either. I was originally thinking to make it be as high as a normal 2 story house. The faces in the front at the top are the windows of the bridge, and the surface that slants forward from the windows would have the entrance into the ship. Maybe big enough for a small vehicle to fit through?
The arch like thing in the back might be detailed to resemble a laurel wreath (roman influence) - let me know what you think of the idea. If anybody has a practical application for it, I’d like to hear it. I don’t mind leaving it as a decorative piece but it could potentially be a shield generator.
Also there is the question of engines. I could go realistic style and have huge visible engines (standard dropship configuration) or I could go for Barely noticeable Star Wars style.
Ok, enough talking. I’m listening now.
P.S. Oh and if it’s hard to express something, feel free to grab one of the linked pictures and draw on it.
Thanks, I’ll definitely check it out. I was more interested in getting critique on my WIP. I was hoping that by listening to feedback and correcting things on it and posting ore WIPs, It would form into something.
The problem is that you quite literally have nothing to comment on. You have a few very vague concepts and a 1 min piece of mesh. Basically from your post it sounds like you want us to design the ship for you. I’m not sure if that was your intent or not, but that’s the way it comes off.
The best thing I can tell you is put blender away for a bit, sit down with a piece of paper (Or photoshop, whatever suits your fancy) and just sketch, get your concepts down on paper, draw as many different variations and concepts as you can possibly come up with, then you can sit down and sift through them for the stuff you like and develop your concepts from there. I’m working on a similar project (Designing a ship that is) and I have about half a sketchbook filled with random notes and drawings, and I still haven’t found something I really like.
If you actually do this, you’ll end up with a better end product no matter what, because instead of relying on random forumers to design your art, you’ll be actually creating it yourself. And really, isn’t that what it’s all about?
Totally true man. I complete skipped a step.
Is their anyway to delete this thread? I think I’ll restart it a little later but with more developed WIPs for critiques.
No reason to delete the thread, you can still post your sketches here for feedback on the designs. Others in the communities may also throw ideas at you which will help stimulate creativity.
