AHHHHH! I'm so FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

I’ve been trying to work through the Man Candy tutorials and its just NOT working out like he shows in the videos…

For some reason the extra bone he adds at the knee to smooth out the bend at the back of the knee just doesn’t work for me.

I won’t even go into the IK set up he uses for the leg. I set up the Ankle-Goal and add the IK. Then I add the heel bone and parent it all as he says and the rig goes NUTS! there’s no fine control. If I try to move it the leg flips and twists around the head like some sort of freaky contotionist!

I’m sure its something I’m not doing right. Or more to the point something I’m missing but I can’t figure out what it is :frowning: Is there anyway to open two copies of Blender at the same time so I can compair the blends he provides to the one I’m making? His blends work fine when I open then but I can’t figure out what I’m missing…

On a completely different note is Blender 2.49 on Mac a little buggy? Sometimes when I make keyframes the green line that marks them doesn’t show. The keyframes are there but they aren’t marked… I also had trouble applying an armature to a model. Does it have to be done in a specific order or something? I couldn’t get it to work twice but doing it over for the third time it finally worked.

In short I can’t tell if I’m doing something wrong or Blender is bugging out on me :-/

AHHHHHH!

Ok I fell better now

Rigging can be frustrating. For the mancandy files, the rigging-animation system has evolved in the last versions of Blender, so it may be possible that it needs some adjustements to work correctly.
On a Mac, its’ not possible to have 2 files opened within the same Blender. So the easy workaround is to duplicate your application and open two Blender (I’m usually working with 2-3 Blender at the same time and its works well).
There were some bugs in the 2.49, that’s why a 2.49a version was released a short time after. Have you tried with the last one?

That’s one of the most frustrating things about Blender. There are TONS of tutorials but most of them are for older versions of Blender. So not only do you have to understand the tutorial but then you have to update it for the version you’re using.

I didn’t realize there was was a 2.49a. I’ll go download it now. Thanks!

I know it sounds like I’m griping (because I am  so I should say that I really love Blender. I just wish the learning curve wasn’t so steep
