ai Import

Hi there,

I’m using Version 2.37a for a short time and have to import a shape in ai. Where can I find the ai Importer in the new version. The options only show VRML, STL, DXF and VideoScape. Doesn’t support the new Version ai Import?

Thanx

André

Hi there,

sorry, but there is no entry Paths, only VRML, STL, DXF and VideoScape.

This is what you should be seeing:

You may need to hit the “update menus” button in the Scripts window or in the Filepath in the UserPrefs window.

Hi there,

thanks for your help but this is what I see

and pressing update menues causes an Error “invalid script dir”.

Is something missing on my system?

André

I don’t know if it makes a difference but do you have Python installed?

If no-one here can help you then copy your error message in the console and paste it in the Python and Plugins forum where stiv, stani and ascotan hang out.

In the meantime use your computer search to find mod_ai2obj.py and obj_import.py and open them in the text window and run them with Alt-P with your mouse cursor in the text window.

Right, you need python installed for the menu items with the little “snake” graphic next to them. Under linux this is usually already installed, under windows it is usually not, and I can’t say for Mac OSx.

Once you install python, use this script instead of the built-in one:

http://jmsoler.free.fr/didacticiel/blender/tutor/cpl_import_ai_en.htm

right-click and save the link that says “Downloading the script”

Open it in the text editor and hit alt-p like Fligh % described.

The built-in importer doesn’t work very well.
