Hello. I have been working on a character for a while now and I am ready to show him to the world. He was born in a laptop at an undisclosed location during Operation Enduring Freedom. We are both currently enlisted in the United States Air Force. He is a “one striper” which places him very low on the food chain in terms of rank. Ultimately my intentions were to debut him in an animated short but given the current circumstances in our world I have been hurting a little for time. I realize you are all busy as well and I appreciate all of your advice.
Thank you,
Landis R. Fields IV
Below is the initial sketch that I used as concept art during modeling.
Haha, that’s so cute
Very good modelling there, the attention to detail is great.
The hands look a little flat, but I can’t be sure from this angle.
If you’re not gonna animate him, at least put him in a scene.
He’s got a kind of scared “it wasn’t my fault” expression so adding something broken behind him and a shadow of a big guy from the direction of the camera would make it look very funny
I will definately keep you guys posted on any animations. I have been following the blender community for some time now and a great deal of my knowledge is derived from this particular forum. I never registered because I am normally viewing from government computers, however, I just had to show him off and also…I was afraid to post my work…I can’t explain why but I was! Anyways, I have posted this guy at so many CG sites it is crazy. I knew the time would come and it did just moments ago…someone asked me what application I used to create the airman. My mouth watered as I typed the words…“Blender…an opensource FREE 3D application”. I am currently anxiously awaiting their reply.
Cheers,
Landis
P.S. If you go to my site I apologize but it is still under construction…as a matter of fact if you hit refresh on your browser you might actually witness my construction work.
Thanks again guys.
Here is a sneeeeeek peeeeek at the “shitter truck” A.K.A. “Mr.Bubbles”.
And that’s not all folks…if you act now you get a free test render of the Airman’s supervisor (insert cheesy gameshow music here) …“The N.C.O. (non commisioned officer)”!! Now you know why the Airman has that look on his face! Sorry about the cigar…I said it was just a test render.
Take care of yourself out there. World conflict seems inevitable with each passing day. Although the media sensationalizes it all, we know there are real mean and women risking there lives. We pray for you.
Easily 3 of the best efforts I’ve seen out of Blender. Great models, but
the texture work is amazing. Are they hand painted or photographed?
Either way they just bring them to life.
Your artwork is great! You have nothing to be afraid of posting here. It looks cool, it’s nice rendering, modelling, lighting, etc. And it has character.
BTW, as an American, I thank you for your service to our country, and to the cause of democracy and self-determination in the world (not to get all political or anything… folks, please direct all flames to the off-topic forum).
WOW! Ehmm… May I drool? Those textures are some of the best I´ve seen! And the modelling! Its just… great… :o . Must ask: How long have you been working with 3d? And with Blender? You are just great at this! rushes back to blender to learn UV-mapping
Detritus,
Approximately 2 years ago I decided I was going to learn 3D but like all of us at one point I had to ask myself “which one?”. As you all know there are a number of 3D apps floating around out there and I wanted to know which one was industry standard. I did’nt ever get an answer so I decided to investigate all of them and their users. Just before deploying to Oman and Baharain about a month after having made my decision, I purchased a number of textbooks to take with me to the desert to get me “up to speed” on the various 3D applications…Softimage, 3D studio MAX, etc. It wasnt until about a year ago (Operation Enduring Freedom) that I got my hands dirty with 3D…and you guessed it…I choose blender. By then I had studied lighting and texturing through text books and various sources on the web such as elysiuin!
I will not lie to you though, I have been working with the Maya personal learning edition so that when I can afford to make the move I will be comfortable with the tools. Maya has a promising set of tools geared towards character animation. However, I will always have a Blender.exe somewhere on my harddrive.
Now…back to the eye candy! Here is an example of the Airman’s environment.
@Landis:
Aha, ok. Yeah, Blender is a good choise, free and very intuitive. I´m not very experienced in 3d, but it´s trhe best app I´ve come across so far.
The enviroment is very very cool I must say! So is the truck and Airmans N.C.O! Keep on going, I wanna see more !
I am sorry that I have not replied all day. I posted the N.C.O.'s “shaft-o-matic” on elysiun last nite in the finished products. I don’t want to abuse the server with redundant images so if you are interested click here:
I will post more this week!
I hope everyone had a great weekend…and remember to hang in there…the next one will be here before you know it (thinking to myself how I wish that were true).
Excellent work dude! i wish i had the talent to recognise chracter and reflect that into CG with great modelling, texturing and lighting skills. Amazing work keep it up!
