Align to an imported 3ds plane

Hi all,

I’ve got a triangular plane imported from a 3ds file. It isn’t aligned to any view. So, as it is an imported plane from 3ds, I haven’t local axis and I can’t use “Align View to Selected” to add an Empty parallel object to the plane.

How can I add an Empty parallel object?

Go into edit mode. Select three verts on the plane. shift v (align to top).
Shift-s cursor to selection. Then in object mode add an empty.
