I’m trying to use the align view utility (shift-v) to move a vert in the plane of 3 other verts that I have selected. I’m using the cvs version of blender.
In the old blender, I could select 3 verts, and then press shift-v for align view, and select top. Then, moving one of the 3 verts would only move that vert within the plane created by those verts.
However, in the cvs version, I select 3 verts and press shift-v. Then, neither top nor front seems to consistently get me the view I am looking for, so I try both until one looks as though I am directly over the 3 verts. Then, moving one of the verts does not move it within the plane of the 3 verts I initially selected. Here is a pic of what happens in the cvs version when I start with a subdivided plane:
It works fine for me. I tried it in Blender 2.34 and the latest CVS build by mchs3d using the default settings for the transform widgets (hand and Translate buttons depressed, Transform Orientation set to Global).
Well, I just recompiled blender cvs this morning. I also deleted ~/.blender and ~/.B.blend, and it still isn’t working right.
When you say it works, have you tried rotating view around so you are looking at an edge of the plane before you press shift-v? It works for me if I create the plane looking straight at it, and then select the verts and press shift-v without changing the view, because nothing has changed. However, as I’m sure the tool was designed, if I am not already aligned on the top and I press shift-v and select top, I’m not getting back to the true top.
