That’s, well, PERFECT animation…
This is great! I love the “clay” look of the characters and the characters anatomy/proportions are perfect. The lighting and set design are really looking good too. Looking forward to more tests.
BTW how much of this was done in Blender? You used Max for the rigging and animation didn’t you?
Hi, I’m the rigger in “Alike”. Thanks for the comment!
Almost all was done in Blender (including rig and animation), only textures and normal & displace maps were made outside Blender, using photoshop and Zbrush.
Thanks Sentinel, glad to know Blender can do work of this caliber. Great job!
I love it! First test was pretty funny when the orange kid grabbed the book and the expression on his face was like, “What do you think you’re doing? Keep reading!” The last one what basically a “WTF?!” moment when he stuck the lollipop in his ear. I really need to up my own animation skills.
Bravo! Love the overall style.
Hope you dont mind me asking, how long, roughly, did it take to do each of the animation tests? And, what kind of man power you
re throwing at it?
Again, great overall look and feel imo.
Love the style, I’m looking forward to this short for sure!
We start with a team of 10, now we are 7 and 1 (Sentinel_,
the rigger) working online.
The production time is a dificult thing to say beacuse we made a lot of changes in the models, rigs, pipeline, render, look, etc. trying to find the best way
without these “changes” the stimated procuction time is about 3 months for the all tests.

uhmm… how I missed this thread??
Daniel, we would always love to hear updates on Alike. Can you share something about the pipeline you have finally settled with?
And when we can expect the final short?
Holy frack dude… that was incredible! I can’t wait to see more of this!
this is fantastic animation…well done
beautiful animation! great design! congrats! And I’m interested in the same question as Exzema!
Mathias.
Daniel, I have couple of more questions for you. But first, I would like to say that you guys have done a wonderful job with the character design. That little guy (what’s his name, btw?) reminds me of your Pepe character very much and we know Copi from your days when you created ‘Changes’, however, it seems you made some minor changes to your original design of Copi. Isn’t it?
Also loved the pupil rig on the eyes, those cute ponies of our cute little character are well thought of too and the shaders look great in all of the tests; subtle but very eye-soothing.
What mechanism did you use for the rubber-hose style? The bendy arms and legs look perfect with those arcs. I am guessing, ani-Sculpt but I am also predicting that you’ve developed some in-house tools/add-ons too. And for Motion Blur, isn’t there any hack to get it more smoothed-blur than jagged-strobes effect? I can’t think of any.
You recently talked about pros and cons of using Open Source tools in your pipeline at Mundos Digitales Festival, would you like to share it with us (like a PDF of the slides). And I presuming, the presentation would have been in Spanish, so it would be nice to have an English translation for all of us.
Hi!
The name of characters are : Copi (father) and Paste (Son). Copi from Alike is a redising od Copi from “Changes”
The short will be finished the next year, January o february, I hope but in two months or so will be
released a trailler.
We have a rig plenty of bones, include the facial rig, so we have a lot control but we use the aniSculpt all the time to
enhanced the pose or fix bad deformations, in the current version of Blender you don’t need scripts anymore just
sculpt, here an example: http://vimeo.com/27100314.
In the next month we show some videos about the pipeline, stay tune!
