All seeing eye dead, anything else?

Well, Yahoo drove the all seeing eye into the dirt.

How do you guys connect to online games?

I do not want to install game spy’s adware filth on my system , Xfire’s spyware is out of the question too.

Are there any decent game browsers out there that do not install Spyware, Adware , or Malware? Preferably open source.

All seeing eye was nice because if there was a game that was not supported, you could make the launcher yourself. It also had some great filters for it.

TIA for any suggestions.

I don’t know any, sorry, but how do you know Xfire has spyware?

I would like to know as I have it on my system!

Can you cite any articles/other sources?

Thanks

LC

I can safely say that Steam doesn’t have any spyware problems, although it’s a little cumbersome if all you want to do is keep in touch with gaming friends, as it is intended to purchase games. Still, it’s easy enough to keep a list of other steam friends on there.

Where did you hear that xfire has spyware?

I don’t know any, sorry, but how do you know Xfire has spyware?

Quite simple really, It makes you log in every time you load it, and in the EULA you have to agree to it says that it sends your IP, and information about the game you are playing to their master servers.

The game servers don’t use this information for anything, The all seeing eye was able to get the specific games master server without any of that information. The only time you should have to send your IP is when you connect to a server.

Xfire is probably selling the info to game publishers for market research. Just like gamespy does.

the games i want to use it with are all free games, Tremulous, and Urban terror.

Steam has an offline mode (albeit strange to get into), allows you to buy games, and you can add non-Steam games to your Steam games list. A cool thing about running games this way is if you have friends on Steam, you can press ctrl+tab and talk to your friends ingame. This can be disabled of course if you dont want it or just don’t want to be online with it.

From time to time Steam might ask if you want to participate in a hardware survey (the results of which exist at http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html ) but it is entirely optional.

Steam, as with most of Valve’s software, runs great on Linux with WINE. You can probably tell by the thumbnail this image is slightly NSFW

Hmmm.
Steam just adds shortcuts to the games, from what I see. I want something that pings the servers, allows me to filter out some content. and lets me see if humans are playing or not.

You know I believe that Mac can be a middle ground between Linux and Windows. I wonder.

yea, makes me laugh my ass off too, people buying a MAC and then running windows or Linux.

well, i guess i should not laugh too hard, I run OSX under VMware.
Stop laughing… its a geek thing :stuck_out_tongue:
