Alpha mapping is only showing world material on other side, not other objects

Hey. It’s me again. I’m learning one or two things in regard to alpha mapping. The problem I’m experiencing is that when I turn up a material’s alpha value (to the effect of making it see-through), it’s only showing-through with the world material and not other objects behind it. Can anyone briefly divulge how to configure alpha so that other OBJECTS (meshes namely) show through? THANKS.

Turn on Z-Transp in Link to Object tab.

actully, you turn down an alpha to make it more transparent. Up means more opaque.

Excuse me if I’m wrong but I don’t exactly think an alpha mapped plane is supposed to look like this!

Again: anyone know how to make it so actual OBJECTS are rendered through? I’m trying to learn some alpha-mapping-entailing methods for volumetric fog. I know there’s a way to do this. I think I’ve done it before sometime in the distant past, I just can’t for the life of me seem to remember it.
