alpha not working

hey ppl

I’m working on a kind of jet glow, and can’t get the alpha to work the way I want it to.

I made a gradient (b/w) mapped to the object´s alpha. The preview looks good, but on the rendered image, the transparent bit ends up black.

Anyone knows what i’m doing wrong?

Just to be sure, do you have Z-Buffering turned on? (“ZTransp” in the Mirror Transp panel) or if ray tracing, “RayTransp” with “Ray” turned on in the Render buttons?
