Last night I rendered out a 700+ png RGBA image sequence in cycles. I want to overlay these ontop of some other footage so that the footage underneath comes through. I’ve tried everything I can think of to get it to work. Here’s my extremely simple node setup:
Please tell me what I’m doing wrong, and whether or not I’m going to have to re-render the whole sequence.
What were your render settings ? Did you enable the ‘Transparent’ checkbox in the Render / Film panel to set the world backgroundto transparent and save the .png as RGBA to give it an alpha channel.
If you didn’t use the options Richard mentions, you may still be able to salvage the composite by using one of the Matte nodes to generate a mask for use in the Alpha Over node. A Matte output can be plugged into the Fac channel of Alpha Over to substitute for the usually inherent alpha of a Render Layer or RGBA file. Due to AA, it may take some massaging to get a clean composite, but the nodes designed for use in situations like green-screen shots can help in that regard.
@richard: I have been enlightened! @chipmasque: I actually did try to do what you said before I even started this thread, and I got it to work, but I’d rather re-render than go to all the trouble of trying to get rid of the black outline.
