Alpha showing in 3D viewport

Can anyone please explain how to get the alpha to show on the bottom image, the same as is on the top image.

The top image was imported using the Images as Planes add-on, the bottom one I put on a plane object. I’ve gone through the material and texture settings for the top object but I can’t work out why the bottom object will not show the alpha in the viewport when the top one does.

easy, i hope u unwrapped ur plane. make sure ur img does have alpha.
now in edit mode goto object data panel (yeah its button looks like a triangle).
now under texture face tab set transparency to alpha.
done

Thanks, I got it to work.

But for some reason when I try it on a cube instead of a plane, the alpha on effects one face of the cube.

I finally worked it out, with an object like a cube you have to in edit mode select each face one at a time. The set the transparency to alpha under object data.
