Alpha texture on plane appears lowres w/ black outline

I am trying to make an alpha fur texture for an animal character out of planes, the texture is supposed to be 1024 by 768 pixels and looks fine in the UV image editor, And when i attach it to a plane and set the alpha, it looks fine at first, but then when i duplicate it the outside of it becomes very low res with black outlines like this!

Is there any way to fix it within blender? I checked the texture in gimp and it has no black outlines in it at all so I don’t know why blender is doing this…

somebody help? please?? I’ve tried “premultiply” and Use alpha but nothing helped and I’ve spent days searching for answers to this problem with no result!

This is in the viewport right, not in the rendering ?

If yes, try this, first set up your material and texture
(in the texture panel, enable premultiply, then in the “Influence” tab along with Color that is enabled by default, enable “Alpha” too)
(in the material panel enable Transparency and set the Alpha to 0)

Now change from Blender Render mode to the Blender Game mode, and in the material set the Alpha to Alpha Clip

See if it changes in the viewport with those settings, it should.

I can’t find the “game settings tab” and I’m in the blender game mode. I’m using Blender 2.58 btw. does that make a difference?

At some point of development they moved this panel, i think in older Blender like the one you use this panel is in Blender Render mode , in the Object Data panel (where you have the vertex groups etc…), but you still need a material and texture setup for this panel to appear there too if i remember well.
