ALT + V shortcut no longer available -- replacement?

So you add a texture to a plane and then want to have that plane match the aspect ratio as the texture being mapped to it a la ALT + V in Blender 2.49, how do you do it in the new versions?

This command no longer exists, but you can instead use the add-on Import Images as Planes (you must enabled it in the section Import-Export of Add-Ons panel).
