Altering mesh shape - done it, can't remember the right terms!

I know I’ve done this before, but I can’t remember just what terms or words to search for to remind me what tools I used.

I want to alter an existing mesh. For instance, say I have a sphere. I want to be able to make a dent in it and have control over the shape of the dent (and I don’t mean just making a shape and using a boolean modifier). I also want to be able to “pull” parts of the shape out. For instance, maybe make one side of the sphere protrude some so it’s lopsided.

I haven’t done this in a good while, but I remember there’s a tool or way to do it. I just can’t remember the right terms so I could do a search to find something to remind me how to do it!

Hi

Try searching for shape key, or morph?

Proportional editing brush in sculpt?

Or even Lattice deform or geometery proximity.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like you were using Proportional editing…

Thank you!

I woke up and the word “deform” popped into my head, so I looked it up and realized that, while I’ve used it, that’s not what I was thinking of at this point. (For the shape I’m working on, it’d be a pain to make a cage to use for that.)

But, yes, now that I see it here, I remember it - proportional editing!

It’s very frustrating and this happens at times, when I just cannot think of the word I need!

Of to do what I wanted to do on this project now that I have the right term for what I wanted!
