amazing defocus/dof node by eeshlo now in cvs!

i am on both thanks to my nice intel mac book pro from work.

i am using this build:

Hey thanks for that…it does indeed work…I hadn’t thought of using the ‘Use Nodes’ button as a toggle to update…maybe its just the way my mind works but I hadn’t perceived that as an option during the use of nodes

cekuhnen
I see in your previous screenie that you have a large fStop value 77.34 I think - try using something like 4.00 the effect should be quite obvious then HTH

i even set it to 0. no luck. all sharp!

I presume you have “do composite” selected in the render settings?

Also, make sure you set the focus point in the camera.

Have you checked in the outliner under renderlayers to see that ‘scene’ is enabled ?
Perhaps you should not be calling the renderlayer ‘scene’…
Really I am sorry I don’t know why this is not working for you

A simple DOF test file can be found at http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Release_Notes/Notes243/Compositing_Nodes . Hopefully more will appear.

I’ll make a test now and post it and the result here.

OK, here is the render result:

And here is the .blend : http://micwit.jumbahost.com/blender/doftest.blend

If you render off an animation, the focal point changes as well. The blur could be smoother, but to fix that, increase the samples in the defocus node.

Let me know if it works

MicWit

Just a note that doing a border render produces a defocused ( unrectangular and vigenetted ) outline…don’t know if this was overlooked or is a bug…

I haven’t tested the defocus yet, but can you can guys tell me if it follows the same rules that are explained in Digital Lighting and Rendering?

please shoot me!

i forgot to turn on the do composite button, but i know that i tried that one time as well.

all nice and blurred

but the derotest node is great as well.

cekuhnen, great- hahaha. (forgive the well-spirited laugh) I’m glad it works for you. :D.
I’m working on an image again now, partially just to play with all these new goodies I haven’t fully learnt yet (sculpt, renderlayers, dofnode) … it feels like christmass ;)…
thanks to eeshlo and all the devs

I think this needs to be changed. I’ve had problems with that too. For some reason it won’t render the same frame again if you have that checked too. It just updates the composite changes. I admit that’s handy but it can be annoying. I have to change frame and move back to render again.

If there was just a single optional preview window and a single parameter window for the selected node and nodes were just little blobs like Shake, that wouldn’t happen. For large setups, you can try combining nodes together into a single reusable node and possibly hiding the preview.

eeshlo, it’s fantastic to see this finally committed, you did an excellent job and it’s turned out to be very good indeed. Well done!

For any curious people here are some demo movies made with a development version, with animation etc:

and this simple one

A bit OT in this thread but has anyone else played with ID mask stuff?
There are a couple of demos files added to the wiki lately
http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Release_Notes/Notes243/Render_Passes
one of which has a UV mapped sphere in a scene with a cube and suzanne and you can paint on the UV in the image window and a sec or so later the image is renderer with it…AMAZING!..watch too as you change spec and colour of just suzanne in realtime…nodes are GREAT!!! thanks Ton

Hi

Could anyone give me a link to a Blender test build with this DOF node included please ? (Windows version)

Thanks Geoff

You can get a smooth noiseless result by disabling ‘preview’ mode.

You can get recent cvs builds at the blender.org ‘testing builds’ forums here: http://www.blender.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=ff5a4f52d70130f47a185313fa3ea220
Or the aforementioned graphicall site: http://www.graphicall.org

broken,

nice results. i assume that it is possible to key the DoFDist value?
