Hey thanks for that…it does indeed work…I hadn’t thought of using the ‘Use Nodes’ button as a toggle to update…maybe its just the way my mind works but I hadn’t perceived that as an option during the use of nodes

I see in your previous screenie that you have a large fStop value 77.34 I think - try using something like 4.00 the effect should be quite obvious then HTH
Have you checked in the outliner under renderlayers to see that ‘scene’ is enabled ?
Perhaps you should not be calling the renderlayer ‘scene’…
Really I am sorry I don’t know why this is not working for you
If you render off an animation, the focal point changes as well. The blur could be smoother, but to fix that, increase the samples in the defocus node.
cekuhnen, great- hahaha. (forgive the well-spirited laugh) I’m glad it works for you. :D.
I’m working on an image again now, partially just to play with all these new goodies I haven’t fully learnt yet (sculpt, renderlayers, dofnode) … it feels like christmass ;)…
thanks to eeshlo and all the devs
I think this needs to be changed. I’ve had problems with that too. For some reason it won’t render the same frame again if you have that checked too. It just updates the composite changes. I admit that’s handy but it can be annoying. I have to change frame and move back to render again.
If there was just a single optional preview window and a single parameter window for the selected node and nodes were just little blobs like Shake, that wouldn’t happen. For large setups, you can try combining nodes together into a single reusable node and possibly hiding the preview.
A bit OT in this thread but has anyone else played with ID mask stuff?
There are a couple of demos files added to the wiki lately http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Release_Notes/Notes243/Render_Passes
one of which has a UV mapped sphere in a scene with a cube and suzanne and you can paint on the UV in the image window and a sec or so later the image is renderer with it…AMAZING!..watch too as you change spec and colour of just suzanne in realtime…nodes are GREAT!!! thanks Ton
